Global production company Directors Think Tank, recently named No.1 production house in Asia (for the second year running), by Campaign Brief’s ‘The Work’ has signed highly-acclaimed Malaysian director Jeany Amir to work across the DTT global network.

 

Amir’s honest and creative style has redefined brands and captivated its audiences. After graduating from New York Film Academy, she spent five years as a freelance filmmaker in Los Angeles, working with brands like Red Bull, Johnson & Johnson and F&N (sporting and traveling being her forte).

Once the youngest recipient of the grant offered by the Malaysia Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC), her imagination and dedication have garnered numerous awards for her commercial work with local and international advertising agencies. Self-motivated and committed to striving for innovation, originality, and awe-inspiring stories, she has not only been able to create visual 30-second masterpieces, but also, been able to transfer her artistic flare to the big screen.

Malaysian-born and Malaysia based Jeany Amir is a director at Directors Think Tank, a leading production company with offices in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. Campaign Brief Asia put 15 questions to Amir to find out more about her and her approach to directing.

 

1. What’s your favorite part of the job?
The adrenaline rush that comes from receiving scripts and the budget that comes with it. I normally “berangan-angan” that I’m in Hawaii while working on a treatment. My imagination is free and I can be anywhere!

 

2. What is your most productive time of day and why?
Believe it or not, it’s actually at 5:30 a.m.! It’s such a peaceful time—and I get into my zone when I’m blasting Sheila on 7 or the Beetles while working on my ideas.

The BMW Shorties Returns with RE:IMAGINE for 16th Year Running.

The prestigious short film competition makes its much-awaited comeback with new theme – RE:IMAGINE, and commences submissions from now until 28th October 2022.

Kuala Lumpur, 19 September 2022 – BMW Group Malaysia today commenced submissions for the BMW Shorties 2022, the latest edition of Malaysia’s most prestigious and longest-running short film competition. Celebrating its 16th year running with the theme, RE:IMAGINE, the BMW Shorties aims to challenge local content creators and filmmakers alike to reimagine storytelling – beyond the conventional – in a post-pandemic environment.

 

This year, the BMW Shorties welcomes four new additions to the esteemed line-up of award-winning judges. 2022 sees the return of veteran director Saw Teong Hin (Puteri Gunung Ledang and You Mean The World To Me) to the panel, accompanied by new judges: internationally-acclaimed director Nadiah Hamzah (Motif), award-winning director Jeany Amir (Bu, Kasih Suci), accomplished screenwriter and producer Anwari Ashraf (Paskal and Polis Evo), alongside acclaimed filmmaker Joon Goh (Wanita Terindah and Sitik Tok).
